It is a Community College that girds toward community needs and prepares students to meet global concerns. We are glad that through this educational venture the ministry of the Church will continue in this part of the globe.

With joy in our hearts we would like to reiterate that through this online version of the “Yobel” people will know what we are doing as an educational arm of the church. We hope to bring to you the concerns from the whole Brokenshire College Community as you read through these pages. We know that in spite the global crisis that the world is experiencing this time education will never stop because it starts from womb and even ends to tomb. Christian education and nurture happen when we are faithful to the mandate of the Lord Jesus Christ “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you and lo I am with you always, even to the end of the age”. This is where Brokenshire College anchors its mission and envisions a school that will produce people who will become responsible stewards, servant leaders who will faithfully serve the community where they are. We would like the college to be of help to the community, thus this year which is its fifth year of service to the community on the occasion of its founding anniversary we launched the legacy and endowment funds intended for the scholarship of poor but deserving students and for the facilities that would best serve our students. We encourage you to be part of this project and become a blessing to students who are interested to study but cannot afford because of financial incapability. We hope to finish the building which we started to build three years ago hoping that with your generosity and kindness this project will push through.

May the “Yobel” serve as the bridge of commitment and loyalty to the vision and mission of the college—to provide quality Christian education for all. Thus we would be very grateful if you can share even a little of your resources. For the little you share will mean a lot to us. Thank you for opening the door of your heart for the fulfillment of our dreams.

As you turn the pages may you find its significance and may it be to you
a way to connect us. God bless us as we continue to journey together and endeavor to be part of this noble task. We greet you with joy and peace from above.

Rev. It is a long term support fund whose principal amount is preserved to generate minimal investment income used to support academic programs of the school. The Brokenshire College - Toril Endowment Fund, produces a stable and permanent and reliable flow of resources that allows the college to make a better development plan for current students and generations to come. The minimal investments made by the fund are used to support Student Scholarships, Tuition Discounts and Faculty Development.

The Legacy Fund is also an endowment made for the development of the school's facilities and equipments.

How can you help?

As a community we encourage everyone to help by participating in fund campaigns and by giving generous and heartfelt donations. The following activities are conducted throughout the year to strengthen our funds.

The Annual fund Build-Up
It is a series of campaigns spearheaded by the Endowment Fund Committee to generate commitments to the fund.

Annual Auctions
The public sale of old but usable equipments, books, clothing, toys and other useful facilities whose minimal income contributes significantly to the growth of the fund

Scholarship Donations
These are substantial donations by very generous individuals or organizations for the purpose of have a "Named Fund" for student scholarship. The forum provided students from Brokenshire College –Toril, Davao Cental College, St. Peter’s College of Toril, Rogationist Academy, Crossing Bayabas National High School and some Barangay Officials diverse perspectives on peace issues and resolutions.

Different perspectives were offered by the different presenters. Officers of Task Force Davao , presented the government’s strategies and efforts to resolve conflicts. Former Bayan Muna Representative Joel Virador discussed the historical perspective of the conflicts in Mindanao. Bai Ali Indayla of KAGAWID also presented views from the Muslim youth on the issue of the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domains. Pastor Amancio Binigyan Jr. also provided a religious and biblical perspective of the conflicts.

The forum aroused the curiosities of the students on the issues that many questions were fielded, especially towards Bai Ali Indayla. Bai ali emphasized to the students that “Real Moslems pursue a path of peace”. The forum ended with a commitment to pursue and promote understanding of the conflicts and peace issues in Mindanao. Rev. Mariano C. Apilado gathered all the participants of the forum by making “a human chain” that symbolizes the “united yet diverse” efforts of everyone towards peace. <n.blanco></n.blanco>

“Arigato gozaimasu, Sir Saeki”

Mr. Saeki Keishiro dreamed of helping poor but deserving students pursue their dreams by providing educational opportunities through a Scholarship Grant. With his dream he founded the Saeki Keishiro Scholarhsip Foundation (SKSF), an organization committed to providing educational opportunities for poor students in Davao City. The association has been a beacon of hope for poor children in many years. It has made a difference in the lives of poor students in depressed areas in the city.

In SY 2007-2008, SKSF in partnership with Brokenshire College – Toril (BCT) opened its doors for students in Toril area to pursue their studies in a private Christian institution. Brokenshire College – Toril became one of the 4 partner schools of SKSF, accepting 10 scholars for admission. The other three schools are: Holy Cross of Mintal, University of Mindanao and Rizal Memorial Colleges. In SY 2009, three of the scholars of the SKSF graduated “With Honors” during the 5th Baccalaureatte and Commencement Exercises.

As an outstanding social entrepreneur Mr. Saeki Keishiro, transforms innovative ideas into generous and noble endeavors. With the SKSF, his sincerest desire and commitment to contribute towards positive social change and service is realized. Throug the years, of his dedicated and generous service he has produced many profesionals --- teachers, accountants, engineers, even architects who came from very poor families.

Mr. Saeki Keishiro, is one among the many who are taking the initiative to fill the gaps of the government in pursuing societal development through education. From his deeds, we can learn that transformative actions provide solutions to the world’s greatest needs.

“We are very thankful for Mr. Saeki Keishiro and the SKSF”, thus said by Mr. Henry Encabo, the school principal during the 5th Baccalaureatte and Commencement Exercises. No words of gratitude can probably match Mr. Saeki Keishiro’s generosity but perhaps that’s the best thing we can do.

So, “Arigato g0zaimasu, Sir Saeki!”

<j.abadilla></j.abadilla>

"ESC Team Visits BCT"

A team commissioned by the Fund Assistance for Private Education (FAPE) and the Department of Education (Dep.Ed.)visited Brokenshire College – Toril last January 9, 2009 to assess and help the college improve its secondary education program.
